Man Arrested in Jewellery Store Robbery Investigation,
Toronto and York Region areas,

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made following an investigation into a series of jewellery store robberies.

On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, police responded to a robbery call in the Progress Avenue and Triton Road area.

It is alleged that:

  • three men entered a jewellery store while disguising their identities by wearing masks and black and yellow construction outfits
  • one man pointed a handgun at the employees and ordered them into a back office
  • the men opened the display cases and removed a large quantity of jewellery
  • the men then fled the store to an awaiting getaway car and drove away from the area

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, police responded to a robbery call in the Steeles Avenue East and Kennedy Road area in York Region.

It is further alleged that:

  • five men entered a jewellery store wearing masks to disguise their identities
  • the men used a hammer, a mallet and a crowbar to smash some of the glass display cases
  • the men removed a large quantity of jewellery
  • the men then fled the store to two awaiting getaway cars and drove away from the area

Members of the Hold Up Squad commenced an investigation with the assistance of the Toronto Police Intelligence Services, the Toronto Police Organized Crime Investigative Support unit, the Toronto Police 43 Division Major Crime Unit and the York Regional Police Service, and identified one of the men.

On Thursday, September 15, 2022, members of the Hold Up Squad along with the Toronto Police Emergency Task Force, the Organized Crime Investigative Support unit, the Toronto Police 23 Division Major Crime & Primary Response Units and the York Regional Police Hold Up Squad, executed two Criminal Code search warrants at the man’s residence and on his vehicle. The man was located at his residence and taken into custody.

It is further alleged that:

  • during the search warrants, a loaded 9mm Glock handgun and a quantity of Fentanyl was seized

Stephan Salmon, 24, of Toronto, was arrested. He has been charged with:

  1. Robbery With Offensive Weapon
  2. Robbery
  3. two counts of Disguise With Intent
  4. two counts of Forcible Confinement
  5. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  6. Possession of Firearm Knowing it’s Possession is Unauthorized
  7. Possession of Firearm with Ammunition
  8. Possession of Firearm Obtained by Crime
  9. Use Imitation Firearm During Commission of Indictable Offence
  10. two counts of Weapons Dangerous
  11. two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence
  12. two counts of Possession Property Obtained by Crime
  13. Possession of Schedule I Substance
  14. Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at the Old City Hall Court, 60 Queen Street West, room 114.

Four suspects remain unidentified and all are described as black men.
