Over 5,000 tickets were issued to road users as part of our recent Back to School Traffic Safety Campaign, 372 within 100 metres of a school.

Between Wednesday, September 7 and Friday, September 16, 2022, Toronto Police focused on enforcement, education, and community engagement throughout the city, with an emphasis around school zones.

Below is a breakdown of tickets issued during this campaign:

Total Tickets: 5,814

  • Speeding:  2,026
  • Aggressive Driving:  1,289
  • Distracted Driving: 279
  • Other infractions: 2,220

The top 3 offences within 100 metres of a school were: speeding, disobey stop sign, and distracted driving.

Parking enforcement officers were also proactive throughout the campaign with the goal of reducing parking infractions, eliminating unsafe conditions and decreasing traffic congestion within school zones. Parking enforcement officers targeted those who chose to park illegally, or vehicles that were potentially putting others at risk. A total of 4,267 parking tickets were issued within 100 metres of a school.

Although this campaign has come to an end, it is paramount that drivers continue to consider the safety of our most vulnerable - school children, pedestrians, and cyclists - when travelling on our roads. Taking traffic safety seriously, and being more vigilant around school zones, keeps our communities safer.

Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word about back to school road safety throughout this campaign.
