Blood Donor Clinic Opens at Bloor-Yonge
If it weren’t for blood transfusions he received while waiting for a bone marrow transplant, Staff Sergeant Dave Ecklund wouldn’t be alive today.
Since being diagnosed with aplastic anemia and obtaining a bone marrow from younger brother Mike that saved his life, the Strategy Management officer has been a Canadian Blood Services (CBS) supporter and volunteer for the last 17 years.
Ecklund attended the opening of permanent blood donor clinic at Bloor & Yonge on May 4.
“I am alive today because of blood donors and was able to fulfil my dream of becoming a police officer,” he said.
Staff Superintendent Kim Yeandle and Staff Sergeant Joyce Schertzer, the executive officer to Deputy Chief Barbara McLean, also attended the opening. Schertzer has been a regular blood donor for the last seven years.
The new Canadian Blood Donor Clinic is located at 2 Bloor St. E.
