Chief Myron Demkiw has put himself in a precariously cold position in support of the 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario.

The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario sees participants get doused, dunked and sprayed with cold water, slush and snow to raise money for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Last year across the province, the campaign raised over $350,000.

“We want to top that this year, so we are teaming up again with the Toronto Maple Leafs and its famous mascot, Carlton,” said Demkiw, starting off his fundraising by filming a freezing dunk at Scotiabank Arena.

In seeking the public’s help, the Chief said donations will make a difference in the lives of over 26,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities.

“You are helping them to experience the joy of competition across the province,” he added.

You can register at polarplunge.ca to start fundraising yourself or donate to a team. Fundraising incentives and prizes are available.

Participants can fundraise and plunge online by using #PlungeON and by tagging @LETRToronto, but this year, an in-person event is being held in Toronto on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Budapest Park alongside Chief Demkiw and Toronto Police Service members.
