Chief’s Tourney Helps Seven Charities

Chief James Ramer had the opportunity to hand out cheques to seven non-profit organizations making a difference in the city from youth to mental health to victim services.

The donations were a direct result of the 2022 Chief’s Golf Tournament that saw over $400,000 raised at the charity tournament at Angus Glen Golf Club on June 9th. The sold-out event drew out 288 golfers.

It was Chief Ramer’s last golf tournament as Chief and the impact of the annual event is not lost on him.

“You have so many people in the community who want to give back, and it’s a wonderful phenomenon quite frankly. We’re able to give back to the community, and local organizations that really benefit the whole community and that’s very rewarding,” Ramer said.

Next year’s tournament will be held on June 15, 2023.

Carly Kalish, Executive Director of Victim Services Toronto, which received a $250,000 donation, was on hand at the cheque presentation.

“It’s a substantial donation, what it means is it will allow us to support people in their most vulnerable moments, and allow us to do things like offer immediate support, crisis response, that will allow us to provide essential services in order for people in their worst moments to be okay," she said. 

"The Chief is a very strong supporter of Victim Services Toronto, and without him and TPS, we wouldn’t be able to support the community as thoroughly as we do," said Kalish.

VST is also supported by the annual Chief’s Gala, which will be held November 17 at the Beanfield Centre in Exhibition Place.

• Believe to Achieve:  Organization that helps kids 8-16 through after-school personal development and mentorship programs
• Wounded Warriors Canada: Mental health service provider of clinically facilitated programs for veterans, first responders and their families
• Rainbow Railroad: not-for-profit organization that helps LGTBQI+ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and sex characteristics
• Ryan Russell Memorial Pipe Band: The Band’s mission is to mentor and develop youth in the art of Highland piping and drumming, thereby preserving the memory of Sergeant Ryan Russell #7686, along with his bravery, courage, and competitive spirit
• Canada Beyond the Blue: The organization is dedicated to strengthening and supporting families of law enforcement officers in Canada.
• Cayman School for Pan: Steelpan instruction for youth
