Ensuring Every Kid Counts
The Toronto Police Motor Squad helped escort the Lansdowne Childen’s Centre Charity Motorcycle Ride to ensure a safe and happy fundraiser for children with special needs.
About 500 riders took part in the 75-km trip through Brantford and the County of Brant on May 9, in support of the Every Kid Counts Program.
Eight Toronto officers helped the Brantford Police Service and Brant Ontario Provincial Police in escorting the ride.
"Your officers professionalismthroughout the event helped ensurea safe and enjoyable ride for all the participants and they are a credit to your detachment," Brantford Police Service Chief Geoff Nelson said.
The Every Kid Counts program enables children with special needs to participate in a range of local recreational activities, including attending summer camp, taking music lessons or playing sports. Funding from the ride helps cover the cost of a support worker who can help the children participate in the activities.
The program supports 100 kids and officials at Lansdowne would like to expand the program to include more young people.
This year's motorcycle ride ambassador is Adam Griffiths, a client of Lansdowne, who is able to attend high school thanks to the help he has received over the years. Adam was able to attend Earl Haig Day Camp and Five Oaks Day day camp because of the help he received through the Every Kid Counts program.
