Handgun Seized at Crime Scene

Police recovered a gun and drugs after a motorist allegedly entered a crime scene area in Scarborough.

On February 28, officers were in a marked scout car maintaining a perimeter at a crime scene on Morningside Ave. near Kingston Rd.

Officers allege that the accused was on his cell phone and attempted to drive around the scout car. A vehicle stop was conducted when he defied police orders and entered the crime scene area.

The vehicle was searched after officers detected the scent of marijuana.

They found a loaded Glock 48 handgun, a pocket knife, a quantity of crack cocaine and a digital scale.

Daniel Campbell Johnson, 26, of Toronto, faces 19 charges, including possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, obstructing a peace officer, unauthorized possession of a firearm and four counts of failing to comply order.

“It’ definitely a good day for us when we can our hands on another gun that someone possesses illegally along with drugs,” said Superintendent David Rydzik, who is the 43 Division Unit Commander.
