Hong Inscribed on Honour Roll

Constable Andrew Hong's name was added to the Honour Roll at Toronto Police Headquarters where the names of those who gave their lives in the line of duty are inscribed.

The motorcycle officer was killed in the line of duty September 12, 2022 while on a break from training.

Hong joined the Toronto Police Service in 2000 serving in 42 Division and was later assigned to Traffic Services, where he had been part of the Motor Squad since 2008.

Hong's wife, Jenny, removed the shroud covering his name on the plaque alongside Deputy Chief Lauren Pogue.

“We are here to recognize and pay tribute to this wonderful man, an exemplary police officer,” Deputy Chief Pogue said. "Andrew inspired and mentored countless officers over his 20-year tenure with the Toronto Police Service. A man of steel who not only loved his job on the Motorcycle Squad, but took immense pride in serving and protecting our communities. Today, Andrew's name joins a terribly long list of noble, brave and compassionate officers, A list that acts as a daily reminder of the supreme sacrifice made by members of the Toronto Police Service in the performance of their duties. Andrew's service and sacrifice will never be forgotten."

Hong's name will be inscribed onto the Ontario Police Memorial and Canadian Police and Peace Officer's Memorial next year.
