Malvern Bike Race
Students had the chance to compete on two wheels as part of a police-community partnership.
On June 4, the 8thAnnual Malvern Bike Race charged down Brenyon Way. Over 125 students from a dozen schools throughout 32, 33, 42 and 43 Divisions got to experience the thrill of a professional timed race on closed streets with the help of police officers and theOntario Cycling Association.
This event is generously funded byCanadian Tire Jumpstart Charitiesand ProAction Cops and Kids. This funding gives the students an affordable experience that they might not otherwise have while fostering positive relationships with other youth and the community.
Cycling for Success has two components that the students must complete before the race. A fitness component and a learn to ride component hosted at Joyride 150, which is a 100,000 square foot indoor BMX and mountain bike facility.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities donates all the bicycles and helmets used for the race and each student is given their bike and helmet to take home as part of their participation in the race.
