Police Officer of Year Gala May 15

Professional Standards
The 51st annual Toronto Police Officer of the Year Awards Gala takes place on May 15 at the Toronto Region Board of Trade at First Canadian Place.

“Every day in Toronto, members of Toronto Police go beyond the call of duty to help keep the city safe,” said Chief Mark Saunders. “This event celebrates the city’s best and bravest.”

Each month, an officer or a group of officers, is selected for Police Officer(s) of the Month, based on bravery, humanitarianism, superior investigative work and outstanding police skills.

Deputy Chief Jim Ramer said the work of the Officers of the Month demonstrates the thousands of great examples of work done each year.

“The public wants to see a police service where the officers are professional and empathetic, and I think the stories that you will hear demonstrate that and more,” he said, of officers who are being honoured for intensive investigations, community outreach and emergency response.

“I hear stories every day about great police work, but all the things that these officers have accomplished amaze me. Despite having 38 years on the job, I am truly amazed by their work,” he said. “It will be quite difficult to decide who is named police officer of the year.”
