Police Ride TTC With Community

A daily reality for many members of the public is their daily commute.

Be it for work, leisure or other personal reasons, more and more individuals are utilizing the services of public transit. Armed with this nugget of information, 31 Division recently launched a new initiative aimed to capitalize on this daily commuter travel time.

Since the beginning of May, officers from 31 Division have taken to riding the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) busy Jane Street route, from Wilson Avenue to Steeles Avenue West, within the Division. Accompanied by Auxiliary officers and members of the Service’s Transit Patrol, officers have been speaking with commuters and handing out transit safety pamphlets, in an attempt to promote and enhance commuter safety.

In support of the positive feedback received by both riders and TTC staff, Inspector Riyaz Hussein said“ensuring community safety is an important component of our overall strategy to provide safer communities. The Jane Street TTC initiative also allows our officers the opportunity to be seen and engage the public in a less formal and positive interaction.”

The high visibility initiative has been very well received by both riders and transit staff to date and will continue during the summer.
