Police Seeking Witnesses In Deadly Crash

22 Division
Toronto Police Traffic Services are seeking witnesses after a deadly collision in south Etobicoke.

On March 31 at around 5.15 p.m., a 36-year-old man driving a White 2020 Cadillac XR6 eastbound on Lakeshore Blvd. and Eighth St. was involved in a minor collision with a parked GMC Savanna van parked on the south side of Lakeshore Blvd W.

People in the area assisted the driver of the Cadillac and reported to police that they believe he was having a seizure and was unresponsive. They broke the window to open the door and assist him.

Before police arrived on the scene, the driver re-entered his vehicle and left the collision scene, travelling eastbound on Lakeshore Blvd W.

Going at a high rate of speed, the driver ran a red light about 2.5 kilometres east of the initial collision, striking a 75-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman who were crossing within the marked crosswalk. The vehicle then collided with the rear of an unoccupied parked flatbed trailer before coming to a stop.

The driver and two pedestrians were pronounced deceased at the scene.

At a press conference on April 1 at Traffic Services headquarters, Supt. Scott Baptist said the driver was federally prohibited from driving in Canada.

“Federal driving prohibitions are generally related to criminal code convictions,” he said. “His driver’s license was also provincially suspended for medical reasons and there was a further third provincial administrative suspension in effect on his driver’s license.”

Police seized the Cadillac for examination.

Baptist said officers have interviewed numerous witnesses.

He is urging anyone who witnessed the two collisions to contact police.

“If you have any pertinent information or video evidence, I would encourage you to reach out to us,” said Baptist.
