Supporting Communities With Meals

Toronto Police teamed up with several community partners to help package and distribute 15,000 holiday meals to vulnerable communities.

Officers from several Divisions were joined by Emergency Task ForceSuperintendent Colin Greenaway, 31 Division Acting Superintendent Ronald Khan and 13 Division Inspector Darren Alldrit, on December 16 at Kitchen24.

“We at 31 Division recognized there is a food scarcity out there,” said Khan. “With the pandemic starting nearly 21 months ago, there are many families who are in need of some additional help and support. The pandemic has changed the world in so many ways that we don’t know what will be the lasting effect. With the community pitching in and everyone doing their little part, we hope this will not be a one-time event.”

Founded by Steve Kidron, Kitchen24 is an organization that focuses on providing a community space for people within the Greater Toronto Area to learn about food and foster food businesses.

“I am excited to be out here with our officers because this is such a great cause,” Alldrit said. “It’s just the right thing to do at this time of year for those who are in need. We are here to give a hand and make sure people get fed over the Christmas holidays.”

Once homeless and hungry, Kidron enjoys giving back to the community.

“I feel blessed to be able to do this,” he noted.

Most of the prepared meals will be donated to Second Harvest, food banks and community centres to be distributed among clients.
