Suspected Wanted in Murder of Bystander
Toronto Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect they believe was involved in the murder of a bystander in the city last summer.
On July 7, 2023, Karolina Huebner-Makurat was killed by a stray bullet while walking in the Queen St. E. and Carlaw Ave. neighbourhood.
A physical altercation between three men that police believe was a robbery escalated into violence when two men brandished handguns and exchanged gunfire.
Huebner-Makurat was an innocent bystander.
On July 13, police announced the arrest of 32-year-old Damian Hudson who was charged with second-degree murder.
On August 14, Ahmed Mustafa Ibrahim was arrested and charged with manslaughter, robbery and failing to comply with probation.
At a news conference at police headquarters on February 7, Detective Sergeant Henri Marsman of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit identified the third and last suspect.
Ahmed Ali, 19, of Toronto is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for manslaughter and robbery with a firearm.
The suspect is described as Black, six-feet tall, about 130 pounds with a thin build and long hair worn in braids.
Anyone who knows of Ali’s whereabouts is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS or www.222tips.com.
Police believe Ali fled to Somalia shortly after the homicide.
“At the time, he was not a suspect and he was not on our radar,” said Marsman. “Since we have identified him and done background checks, we realized he left shortly after the murder. We are making efforts through our partners at Interpol.”
He encouraged Ali to turn himself in to police to face his charges.
Khalila Zara Mohammed was also arrested after the homicide and charged with obstruction of justice and being an accessory after the fact.
