Sweet Thank You For Hospital Staff

52 Division

Toronto Police 52 Division officers collaborated with a local business to deliver 270 cheesecakes to Scarborough Health Network (SHN) frontline workers.

On July 10, the cheesecakes were dropped off at the SHN Centenary, General and Birchmount sites.

Through the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Toronto, Const. Alex Chou was introduced to Love Me Sweet Japanese Cheesecake.

“I met with the owner and Linda Tse (SHN Associate Director for Development) and decided this would be a good gesture for all those healthcare professionals working on the frontline,” he said.

Const. Ian Lam accompanied Chou to assist with the drop-offs.

“It’s wonderful that we know some people who were willing to step forward and do this for our nurses and doctors and frontline staff who are working so hard during this pandemic,” he added.

Love Me Sweet, which was forced to close its four retail stores because of the pandemic, also made a donation of $4,500.

Michele Varela, the Scarborough Health Network Foundation Executive Vice-President of Philanthropy, accepted the generous donation on behalf of the hospital.

“This is a great contribution to the frontline staff who work in the ICU and the Emergency department during this third wave of COVID, she pointed out. “This is definitely a morale boost for the staff. It will certainly brighten up their day.”

Varela said the monetary donation would be used for the hospitals’ highest priority needs.
