Toronto Police fields three lacrosse teams made up of Toronto Police officers and other First Responders from the Greater Toronto Area. They are supported by the Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association.
“Our main focus has been to play against local high schools and rep teams in the Greater Toronto Area to bridge the gap between the police and the community by creating a positive relationship with youth and police,” said TPAAA lacrosse chair and past president Const. David Sawyer. “Over the years, we have raised money for many local charities and schools.”
The Police Tinmen team competes in law enforcement tournaments across North America while the co-ed box lacrosse team plays in the Toronto Lightning Lacrosse league at Stephen Leacock Sports Complex on Sunday evenings.
“This is a stick-checking only league comprising players who are just learning the sport and those that have competed at a high level,” said Sawyer. “The league is both fun and competitive.”
The Toronto Police Lacrosse teams will also delivering a lacrosse history and skills program this month at Eastview Public School and Cedar Drive Junior Public School in Scarborough.
Toronto Police officers and school staff will manage the Lacrosse 101 Program at the schools in 43 Division.
