Traffic Celebrates 20 Years of Wishes

The Traffic Services Charity Golf Tournament has raised over $250,000 for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

It was decided that 2013 would be the last year of the Traffic Charity Golf Tournament.

Over 20 years ago, Traffic Services started the tournament to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation, a charity that grants a wish to a child with a serious or life-threatening illness.

This past year we were able to raise $3,000, thanks to the efforts of co-chairs Detective Constable Chris Horton and Maryanne Debono.

We would like to thank everyone for your contributions and recognize the numerous people who have given of their time over the years to chair the committee. Unfortunately there are far too many to mention individually. We would also like to acknowledge the volunteers, celebrities and community sponsors without whom this event could not have succeeded.
On January 30, 2014, Superintendent Gord Jones and Inspector Andrew Norrie of Traffic Services presented the final Traffic Charity Golf Tournament cheque, in the amount of $3,914.91, to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

“I am saddened that this is the end of a longstanding Traffic tradition, however there are opportunities to start new traditions”, said Jones. “As times change so must we. There are many other events which are just as worthwhile. Children’s Wish has a survivor team event where they ask ‘Do you think you’ve got what it takes to grant wishes?’ and endure a day of physical, mental, and skill-testing challenges to become the ultimate Children’s Wish survivor. I am not sure we can put together a team for this year, however, Toronto Police Service Traffic Services will be represented in the future, Superintendent Jones made clear.
