Video of Hit-and-Run Murder Suspect
On August 15, at around 5.45 pm., Steven Doyle was struck by a vehicle travelling northbound on residential George St. at a high rate of speed. At the time of the incident, the victim was standing on the west sidewalk, just south of Gerrard St.
Doyle, known to police, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
At a news conference at police headquarters on August 17, Homicide Detective Steve Henkel said the abandoned vehicle was recovered, shortly after, in a parking lot at 285 Shuter St.
“As the investigation progressed, it became clear that the victim was targeted and there was deliberate intent to harm him,” said Henkel. “We also learned through the investigation that, a short time prior to the collision, there was an altercation between the suspect and the victim.”
Henkel said Doyle was in the company of one or two people whom police are trying to identify.
“We are seeking the public’s assistance to determine the exact nature of the altercation that led to this event,” he said. “We know there were quite a few people on George St. at that time of day and we would encourage them to come forward to speak with us.”
The male suspect is described as brown with light complexion, 5’8” to 5’10”, slim-to-medium build with dark-brown shoulder-length hair tied into a bun. He was wearing a dark jacket with white stripes on the sides. Investigators believe he was outfitted with prescription glasses with rectangle frames.
After abandoning the vehicle, described as a blue mini-van, the suspect fled southbound through the parking lot towards Berkeley St.
Henkel said the vehicle has extensive damage at the front end and there was a 1,200-foot debris field left as the suspect was fleeing the scene.
Investigators don’t believe it was the suspect’s vehicle.
