Witnesses sought to beating death

Homicide investigators are seeking the help of witnesses following the murder of a 22-year-old Toronto man who succumbed to multiple blunt force injury to the head after an early-morning attack.

Danny La, who was involved in a fight on the sidewalk in front of 349 Spadina Rd. at around 3:30 a.m. on September 30, was pronounced dead on October 20. He had been on life support in hospital.

A second man, who was involved in the fight, remains under care at a Toronto hospital.

At a press conference at police headquarters Oct. 25, D/Sgt. Pauline Gray said La and four friends were at the Union nightclub at 473 Adelaide St W.

“During their time at the club, an altercation occurred in the vicinity of the establishment,” she said.

“The extent of Danny La and his friends’ involvement in this altercation has yet to be determined. After the altercation at the club, Mr. La’s group left and travelled to the area of 349 Spadina Rd. to purchase food. While at the location, La and the second injured person were outside of the restaurant when they were approached by a group of males and assaulted.”

She said the assailants struck La and his friend several times about the head and body with a weapon before fleeing.

“I am asking the public’s assistance in turning their minds back to the evening of September 29th into the early morning hours and subsequently the following day of September 30,” Gray said.

“The males who were involved in this murder will, I believe, be injured to some extent.”
