Labour Relations
The Labour Relations unit is responsible for managing all processes related to labour concerns or issues.
Alignment to the Service's focus on strategy development to support modernization is a top priority for the Labour Relations Unit, emphasizing openness, engagement and a partnership-for-change approach with the Toronto Police Association and the Senior Officers’ Organization.
The Labour Relations unit supports the Toronto Police Services Board and Command in the application, interpretation and development of all collective bargaining issues and collective agreements (Senior Officers and Toronto Police Association members, both Uniform and Civilian), ensuring compliance with the Police Services Act, Employment Standards Act, the Toronto Police Service Rules, Procedures and Policies. It is responsible for all aspects of the bargaining and negotiation process.
Also included in their portfolio is the case management of grievances and employment-related Human Rights Tribunal applications. Anticipating business needs and providing effective and economical strategic advice in the administration of Legal Indemnification files, and the management of job descriptions and job evaluations rounds out the services provided.
