Legal Services includes the following members; Lead Counsel and Counsel as well as sections: Legal Researcher, Civil Litigation, Human Rights and Court Processing.
The mandate of Legal Services is:
- To identify and manage legal risk for the Chief of Police and other Service members
- To provide legal advice to the Chief of Police and other Service members in relation to criminal, provincial, civil and corporate law
- To represent the Chief of Police and other Service members where required
- To draft legal documents and respond to court orders
- To manage all civil actions and claims brought against the Toronto Police Services Board the Chief of Police and other Service members
- To assist in the prosecution of Police Services Act matters
