Information Security is the responsibility of every member of Toronto Police Service (TPS).  As a public institution, TPS has both a legal obligation and a public expectation to provide access to and protect the personal information that falls under its custody and control.  We rely on policies, procedures, training and technology to protect information.

The Information Security Unit assists police members and external partners with internal or external complaints; criminal investigations or civil actions; disclosure requests; systems access; background screening; privacy impact assessments and education/awareness.

We strive to ensure information is protected against unauthorized access, loss or modification but we also try to understand and support the growing need for open, information-sharing requirements of the Service.
