Tony Veneziano Chief Administrative Officer

Tony Veneziano, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Toronto Police Service (Service), exemplifies and promotes high ethical standards, and actively reinforces the importance of transparency, integrity, accountability and fiscal responsibility in carrying out his responsibilities with the Service. 

Experienced in dealing with highly-sensitive and complex issues, he is responsible for the Service’s annual operating and capital budget processes, as well as for human resource services: which includes: the Toronto Police College; Equity, Inclusion and Human Rights; Wellness; Labour Relations; Talent Acquisition; and People Strategy & Performance. In addition, Tony also oversees Fleet and Facilities Management; Procurement; Employee Services; Legal Services; and Accounting Services.

Tony is the Service’s longest serving command officer, and since joining the Service in 2005, has led the development of fiscally responsible operating and capital budgets. Working with his Finance team, he develops the annual budgets in consultation with the Chief of Police and his fellow Command Officers, and ensures the Toronto Police Services Board and City Council have the information they need to make informed decisions.

As the senior level member of executive steering committees, Tony has overseen the successful implementation of various technology projects that create efficiencies, reduce risk and increase officer accountability, including the Digital Video Management System, the In-Car Camera System and the Body Worn Camera Program. Ultimately, these projects are designed to increase public confidence and trust, which are crucial to the delivery of effective and value-added public safety services.  He has also overseen the replacement of a number of the Service’s ageing facilities, ensuring the new facilities better meet the operational requirements of the Service and needs of its members.  

Prior to joining the Service, Tony was with the former Regional Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto and current City of Toronto for 20 years, where he held progressively senior roles. In his last position at the City, as the Director, Internal Audit, he was a member of the City’s senior management team and reported directly to the City Manager. He also worked as a Director in the City Auditor General’s Office, reporting directly to the City Auditor General.

Tony holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA) designation and is a member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Major City Chiefs Association. As a long-time supporter of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Tony served as an Executive Member on its Board of Directors, including being the Chair of its Audit and Finance Committee. 

Tony is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for his outstanding contributions to the Toronto Police Service and the City of Toronto.
