Toronto Police Service Kicks off Crime Prevention Week 2024

Unit:

Today, Staff Superintendent Don Belanger joined Mayor of Toronto Olivia Chow to kick off Crime Prevention Week at the Jane Finch Mall. They were joined by Toronto Police Service Board Member and Councillor for Ward 17, Shelley Carroll, and Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Director of Government Relations and Communications, Dr. José Luís Couto.

The conference is available to watch on YouTube.

Ontario’s annual Crime Prevention Week takes place from November 3 to November 9, 2024, and this year’s theme is Awareness in Action: Keeping Ontario Safe Together. The week-long promotion of crime prevention is supported by the OACP, the Ministry of the Solicitor General, and police services across Ontario.

“Crime prevention activities are at the core of everything we do, and our members are very focused on crime prevention initiatives in the communities we serve,” said Staff Superintendent Don Belanger. “For example, the Retail Safety and Security Guide launched earlier this month, Hate the Hate Campaign, the Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force, fraud prevention, overdose awareness and bike theft prevention, among many others."

Crime prevention is a shared responsibility. In keeping with this year’s theme, Crime Prevention Week will focus on collaboration with the community, local businesses and increasing awareness to some of the tools at the disposal of individuals, communities and businesses.
