On Friday, July 24, at 9:30 a.m., at the Toronto Police College gymnasium, Chief Myron Demkiw will be joined by Minister of Children, Community and Social Services Michael Parsa and Deputy Mayor Amber Morley to kick off the 20th anniversary of the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI), a program that gives students a hands-on experience in the field of policing and the careers available at the Toronto Police Service.

The students will participate in a career expo with a variety of units from across the Service, both sworn and civilian, including the Emergency Task Force, Police Dog Services, Mounted Unit, Marine Unit, Court Services and the Forensic Identification Unit to name a few.

The YIPI program began in 2006 with 100 students and enrollment has steadily grown over the years. Over a 20-year period, 4,561 students have come through the program. The program is sponsored by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and the Toronto Police Service Board.
