The Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) is a program designed to provide young people with work experience, develop partnerships between police and youth and encourage youth to consider a career in law enforcement.

The YIPI program allows young students to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and contribute to community safety. Participants work alongside both uniform and civilian members, learning about various aspects of policing, from community outreach to administrative tasks.

The students are embedded within the Service’s 16 Divisions and dozens of other support units.

The YIPI program serves as a stepping stone for youth seeking valuable work experience. It provides a supportive environment where youth can develop, learn, and make a significant impact.

“What you learn as part of this initiative will help you navigate the challenges of becoming a leader, promote better decision-making and equip you with the skills to prepare you for your chosen career,” Chief Myron Demkiw, told the latest group of YIPI students working with TPS this summer.

YIPI students are employed during the summer as well as after-school during the rest of the year.

Young people are being invited to explore the opportunities available through the YIPI program.
