Toronto Police recovered a firearm after responding to sounds of gunfire in the Finch Ave. W. and Bathurst St. area on July 18 at 3.35 a.m.

“The summer safety callback officers arrived on the scene and, after a brief foot pursuit, were able to arrest a male and recover a loaded Glock handgun,” said Acting Superintendent Catherine Jackson of 32 Division. “Our officers should be commended for their quick action and a job well done.”

It is alleged that two masked men fled the area on foot when officers arrived on the scene.

During the foot pursuit, one of the suspects turned towards the officers with a firearm in his hands. He threw the firearm in the direction of the officer and continued running.

The accused was arrested after a brief struggle and the loaded gun with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered.

While officers were engaged with the accused, the second suspect attempted to steal the police car, but was unsuccessful. He fled the area and is still at large.

Ali Suleiman, 23, of Toronto, was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and possession of firearm while prohibited.
