Kids and Cops Connect Through Sports at TPAAA Games
The 77th annual Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association (TPAAA) Children’s Playground Games at Regent Park Athletic Grounds on July 25 brought together over 150 kids aged 6-12 for a day of sports and fun.
TPAAA Treasurer and TPS Constable Farzad Ghotbi emphasized the event’s importance.
“It is about getting kids involved in sports and promoting wellness and health,” he said. “It’s also about building positive relationships with police officers.”
The event featured a variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, rugby, lacrosse, and cricket. Each sports station was run by police officers experienced in those activities.
The youths learned new skills and connected with officers at the stations.
Auxiliary Officer Farhan Ahmed shared his enthusiasm from the cricket station.
“I’m helping out with the community and getting kids engaged in cricket,” he pointed out. “I can’t wait to interact with everyone.”
Starbucks and Tim Hortons offered refreshments from their tents.
The kids also had the opportunity to pet horses from the Mounted Unit and mount a Traffic Services motorcycle and an Emergency Task Force truck.
Nine-year-old Yuuna was very excited to be part of the day’s activities.
“I love the sports and the Starbucks tent,” she added. “It’s always different and fun.”
This event highlighted the importance of how sports can bring everyone together. Kids and cops connected through play, shared experiences and a spirit of community.
