Sex Offender Wanted
Toronto Police is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a sex offender who had been recently identified as the suspect in an ongoing Indignity to a Human Body investigation.
Rejean Hermel Perron has a history of sexual assault against women and is currently wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching his parole.
“We believe he may be exploiting vulnerable and marginalized people in Toronto, including sex workers, the under-housed and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community,” said Superintendent Kim O’Toole at a news conference at police headquarters on June 26.
Perron is 52 years old and may also use the name Daniel Joseph Christie (alternatively spelled Kristy or Krysty).
He is described as a white male, 5’2” with dark hair, blue eyes, a thin build and possibly a pock-marked face.
O’Toole said Perron was arrested and charged by Toronto Police for sexual assault with a weapon, kidnapping, forcible confinement and assault in 2015. He was released on parole in 2021 after serving a custodial sentence.
That same year, the provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad (ROPE) appealed to the public for help locating Perron after he breached his parole conditions, and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.
“Despite extensive efforts to find Perron, he remained undetected until recently when he was identified by 55 Division officers as part of an Indignity to a Human Body investigation,” said O’Toole, of forensic evidence that confirmed the link.
On Monday, May 27, police attended an apartment in the Broadview Ave. and Dundas St. E. area as part of a missing person investigation.
“In the apartment, officers located a deceased person,” O’Toole pointed out. “After examination by the Coroner, it was determined that the deceased died from natural causes.”
On June 10, 2024, police issued a news release asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect they allege was aware that a deceased person was inside the apartment, but did not notify police and actively tried to hide the body.
The individual, who was seen using the deceased person’s door-fob to enter the building and attend the apartment, has been identified as Perron.
“Until this disturbing incident, there has been no sign of Perron for a number of years,” O’Toole noted. “Police are deeply concerned that he may be sustaining himself by exploiting vulnerable individuals as he did in this case.”
The 55 Division Unit Commander said police believe Perron poses a threat to public safety, particularly to women and vulnerable persons.
“If someone looks like him, call us,” said O’Toole.
Police believe that Perron is still in Toronto and frequents the downtown east area. He was also known to frequent Kingston and Chatham.
O’Toole is encouraging the suspect to seek legal counsel and turn himself in immediately.
Anyone seeing him or having any information about his whereabouts can contact police at 416-808-5500 or Toronto Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS.
