The Toronto Police Service will launch a Back-to-School Traffic Safety and Parking Enforcement Campaign beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

As students across Toronto return to the classroom, roads and school zones will once again become busier. Motorists can expect increased traffic volumes, particularly during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal times, along with more children and youth walking, cycling, and using micromobility devices to travel to and from school. These campaigns will focus on enhancing safety in school zones through strict enforcement and community engagement across the city.

During the service-wide traffic safety campaign, enforcement and education efforts will target motorists and micromobility users whose behaviours place students and other vulnerable road users at risk, particularly in and around school zones and along routes leading to schools. Police Officers will adopt a zero-tolerance approach, with particular attention to speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, impaired driving, prohibited turns, and offences involving micromobility devices. Officers will also focus on unsafe behaviours at pedestrian crossovers, crosswalks, intersections, and other high-risk crossing locations.

Officers from the Parking Enforcement Unit will closely monitor illegal parking near schools to ensure motorists are not creating unnecessary risks for children and pedestrians. Special attention will be given to no stopping and no parking zones, crosswalks, and school bus loading areas to help create a safer environment for students. Strict enforcement of parking violations in school zones will be in effect throughout the campaign.

Both campaigns will conclude on Friday, September 18.
