Road Closures and Safety Tips
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Church-Wellesley Village BIA will host its annual “Halloween on Church” festival. The event is expected to draw more than 80,000 people throughout the evening.
The following road closures will be in place between Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 5 p.m., until Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 7 a.m.:
- Church Street, from Gloucester Street to Alexander Street
- Wellesley Street East, in the immediate vicinity of Church Street
Additional traffic restrictions may be implemented to facilitate local traffic access, emergency vehicles and pedestrian safety.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and consider the road closures when planning their travels. Significant pedestrian congestion is expected throughout the Church-Wellesley Village area.
Members of the public attending the event are encouraged to use public transit where possible and to remain aware of their surroundings while travelling through large crowds.
Attendees are reminded to:
- Keep phones, wallets, purses and other valuables secure and be mindful of theft and pickpocketing, particularly in crowded areas
- Avoid leaving personal belongings unattended and report lost or stolen property as soon as possible.
- Stay with friends or a group where possible and have a plan for reconnecting if separated.
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Consume alcohol responsibly and do not drive while impaired
- Never leave drinks unattended or accept open drinks from people you do not know.
- Respect road closures and barriers and keep emergency access routes clear.
- Follow directions from police, event staff, and security personnel.
- If you see suspicious behaviour, violence, theft or another crime in progress, notify police or event security. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency or where there is an immediate threat to safety.
Anyone attending should plan ahead for transportation and expect delays due to the large number of pedestrians and road closures.
