Unit:

Case #: 2026-

The Toronto Police Service has arrested 44 people, laid over 180 charges, and seized eight illegal firearms and nearly 800 rounds of ammunition as part of a firearms and drugs investigation known as 'Project Matrix.'

Beginning on March 1, 2026, members of the Toronto Police Service 55 Division Major Crime Unit launched the project, a coordinated enforcement initiative targeting illegal firearms, drug trafficking, and related criminal activity within the community. The project brought together several investigations involving individuals allegedly engaged in firearms and drug-related offences throughout the division.

As a result of the investigation, 44 people were arrested and charged with 187 firearms-and-drug-related offences. The most common offences include breach of probation, careless use, handling or storage of a firearm, possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Investigators also seized eight illegal firearms, 792 rounds of ammunition, and significant quantities of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, MDMA, cannabis, psilocybin, and LSD.

The results of Project Matrix reflect the continued commitment of 55 Division members to addressing crime and disorder, improving public safety, and enhancing the quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the community.

“Public safety is our priority, and that means taking decisive action against the criminal activity that impacts our communities,” said Detective Sergeant Andy Johnstone of the 55 Division Major Crime Unit. “This initiative will continue, with investigators focused on identifying, disrupting, and holding accountable those involved in illegal firearms and drug trafficking. We will remain relentless in these efforts.”

“55 Division is committed to working alongside our community and policing partners to keep our neighbourhoods safe,” said Superintendent David Correa, 55 Division Unit Commander. “We will continue to target crime and disorder while addressing the concerns that matter most to the people who live, work and visit our communities.”

Project Matrix is part of the Toronto Police Service’s ongoing commitment to preventing and addressing crime and disorder and enhancing public safety throughout 55 Division.
