Anoymous information provided by the public led to the seizure of four semi-automatic loaded handguns and a sizeable quantity of drugs.

“Our Neighbourhood Community Officers and Major Crime Unit worked closely with Toronto Community Housing and their diligent efforts resulted in the arrest of three males outside the address and two were armed with handguns,” said 41 Division Superintendent Warren Wilson. “A search warrant was then executed and two more males were arrested inside the unit along with two additional handguns.”

On January 6, five people were arrested in the Eglinton Ave. E. and Midland Ave. area.

It is alleged that two firearms were located on a man and young offender and, during the search warrant at the residence, two more firearms, a quantity of ammunition along with a quantity of drugs were located.

Wilson said his Division experienced a significant rise in shootings in the last year.

“So getting four illegal handguns off the street is excellent,” he added. “This was amazing police work by our officers which has had an immediate and positive impact on the safety and well-being of the community.”

The Toronto Crime Stoppers (TCS) program launched its Illegal Firearms Awareness campaign last week. Until February 7, any anonymous information about an illegal firearm provided to and approved by TCS which leads to a seizure will be eligible for an Enhanced Cash Reward of $300.
