Collaborative Work Leads to Gun Arrest
Police officers in 43 Division collaborated with the Ontario Provincial Police to help arrest a man alleged to have been a drug dealer and seize two handguns.
While investigating another man in the Scarborough area in January an OPP officer contacted Toronto Police for help identifying his associates. The man had been suspected of selling drugs in the Muskoka area.
Constable Amanda Frederick was assigned to the case and immediately recognized the man as someone she had met while a school liaison officer in 2009. Frederick, who also served as a Neighbourhood Community Officer, has extensive connections to the community.
Frederick identified an associate who lived in the Division to help further the investigation.
On February 26, the associate was arrested in Simcoe County and search warrants on his Scarborough residence and vehicle yielded two illegal firearms - one with an automatic switch, ammunition, drugs and cash.
“This is yet another great example of police collaboration and what it can yield,” said 43 Division Acting Superintendent Ryan Forde. “In this case, two illegal guns were seized.”
The 24-year-old accused faces several charges, including possession of a loaded firearm and drug possession.
