In a four-day span, 31 Division officers recovered four illegal handguns and drugs.

On October 4, Major Crime Unit members saw a man who was on house arrest driving a car. When they stopped the vehicle near Finch Ave. W. and Norfinch Ave., he and another person fled, but were soon arrested.

Police saw fentanyl left behind in the vehicle and a further search led to the location of a Taurus handgun with an overcapacity magazine.

“I am extremely proud of the work our officers are doing to combat illegal guns and drugs,” said Superintendent Jack Gurr. “Our officers, particularly our Major Crime team in this case, are on the street every day drawing from their experience and investigative competence to detect crime.

A total of 444 firearms have been seized by officers across the city this year.

“These officers have become so well acquainted with our repeat offenders, that they recognized one here who was under conditions to remain in his residence. Their actions have made a direct impact to supporting safer communities in Toronto.

On October 8, while executing a search warrant in the Jane St. and Lawrence Ave. W. area as part of a drug trafficking investigation, Major Crime Unit officers located three illegal handguns, two of which were loaded with over-capacity magazines with a round in the chamber.

They also found a quantity of cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and cannabis that were for the purpose of distribution, a quantity of cash, scales and 99 rounds of ammunition.

Across the city, 444 firearms have been seized this year.
