Toronto Police Service (TPS) members secured 32 medals at the recent World Police & Fires Games in Birmingham, Alabama that drew over 8,500 First Responders to compete in over 60 sports.

The TPS team won 14 gold, 13 silver and five bronze medals.

“The Toronto Police Service athletes competed fiercely, fought tenaciously and showed great determination, representing the Service and themselves with the utmost pride, dignity and resilience,” said Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association (TPAAA) president Jhoanna Harison. “I could not be prouder of every athlete.”

The TPAAA fundraises to be able to compete in the Games and runs sports programs to encourage camaraderie among TPS members.

TPS athletes competed in 17 sports, including bodybuilding, jiu jitsu, lacrosse, indoor rowing, softball, soccer, swimming and basketball.

Throughout the event, TPS athletes attended each other’s sports matches, cheering each other on.

“The camaraderie on display was a true reflection of the Service’s values,” said Team Manager Chris Scherk.

Held over 10 days, the Games attracted over 8,500 athletes from 63 countries, competing in over 60 sports.

The next Games will be in Perth, Australia in 2027.
