Gun Seized by Officers on Directed Patrol
A loaded gun, drugs and cash were recovered by officers on a proactive patrol in St. Jamestown.
“This is an example of great proactive policing and is a testament to the importance of intelligence-led policing,” said Superintendent Ishmail Musah, of the 51 Division arrest. “Intelligence-led policing dictated that these officers be in that area and at that time. Traffic and community safety enforcement led to that vehicle stop. The keen observations and actions of these officers resulted in this significant arrest.”
On October 12, officers were on directed patrol in the St. Jamestown neighbourhood and ran the licence plate of a car idling in front of a Bleecker St. building.
They discovered that a driver of the vehicle was wanted on an outstanding warrant. They drove past the vehicle to confirm the driver in the car matched the photo in the database.
As officers approached the vehicle, the woman in the driver’s seat, fled on foot. After a short pursuit, the woman was arrested for the outstanding warrant.
They searched the vehicle and allege they located a bag beside the driver’s seat that contained several smaller bags of drugs consisting crack cocaine, cocaine, blue fentanyl, dilaudid and oxycodone. It is further alleged that a search of the car led to the seizure of a loaded mini-Glock handgun with an overcapacity magazine in the centre console.
“These 51 Division officers showed exceptional dedication and teamwork,” added Musah. “Their actions have enhanced the safety of our community.”
The woman is facing several charges, including possession of a firearm and illegal substances and breach of probation.
