Police recovered a gun after a foot pursuit in the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood on May 19.

While conducting high visibility patrols in the Lawrence Heights Community, officers observed a Forde Edge SUV travelling at a high rate of speed. They followed the vehicle that failed to stop at a traffic sign.

After failing to stop at another traffic sign, officers engaged the emergency equipment in their vehicle and followed the suspect vehicle that stopped near 101 Varna Dr.

At that point, multiple occupants, including the suspect, fled the vehicle. After a brief pursuit, the accused was taken into custody, and a handgun was located during a search.

Inspector Don Theriault of the Public Safety Response Team praised Constable Amanda Spicer who led the foot pursuit.

“It went on for a couple of minutes through a garage and home before the accused ran back onto the street where she tackled him and seized the pistol,” he said. “She also engaged with concerned community members. This officer did a great job.”
