Officers Run Down a Gun
Toronto police officers ran down a man who fled officers and allegedly ditched his firearm in the pursuit.
Police were called after a gun was seen a fight at a plaza near Eglinton Ave. E. and Brimley Rd. April 12 around 2:45 a.m. When officers arrived, they noticed a man matching the description of the gunman and saw him join two others in an alleyway, noticing him hand off an object to another man.
As the man with the unknown object ran away, officers allege the man had a firearm in his waistband and threw it behind a dumpster as they closed in on him.
He was arrested at gunpoint as he cornered himself in a dead end.
“The quick response, courage and actions shown by these officers reflect their bravery, determination and professionalism,” said Superintendent Warren Wilson. “They put themselves in harm’s way to protect the community, safely apprehend an armed suspect and ensure a firearm was taken off our streets. I am extremely proud of their actions and commitment to public safety.”
The 30-year-old man is facing five charges, including possession of a firearm without holding a license and carrying a concealed weapon.
From April 15 to 21, six crime guns were seized with eight adults and three young people charged.
