Police identify murder suspect

Police have identified a suspect in the murder of Paulin Harusha on September 13.

Responding to a call for a shooting in the Victoria Park Ave. and Sheppard Ave. E area, officers located a male victim inside a vehicle suffering from critical injuries.

He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

At a news conference at police headquarters on September 18, Detective Sergeant Alan Bartlett said police had information that there were multiple suspects who fled the scene in a light-coloured SUV.

“In the days since, our investigators at the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit have worked diligently to piece together the sequence of events leading up to Mr. Harusha’s murder and identify the suspects,” he said. “Today, I am able to share we have identified one suspect we believe is responsible for this murder.”

Meelad Tarin, 34, of Toronto, is wanted for First-degree murder.

Bartlett appealed to the suspect to seek counsel and turn himself into police.

“If you have any information that can lead us to the whereabouts of Mr. Tarin, please come forward,” said Bartlett. “And if you know where Mr. Tarin is and are found to be harbouring him or aiding him in any way, we will investigate and lay charges as appropriate.”

He thanked officers in the Homicide & Missing Persons Unit, 42 Division and supportive investigative and operational units who worked tirelessly to identify s suspect.

Bartlett said the investigation is ongoing.
