Toronto Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a suspect involved in a double shooting earlier this morning.

Around 2:45 a.m., a group of people was walking in the area of King Street West and Shaw Street when they had an interaction with a male riding a bike.

“Words were exchanged and the group continued on their way,” said Duty Senior Officer Todd Jocko at a news conference on August 8. “A short time later that same individual approached them again, pulled out a firearm and opened fire.”

The suspect fired several rounds at the group before fleeing westbound on Sudbury Street.

A man and a woman, both in their 30s, suffered serious injuries and remain in hospital.

“Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones as they begin what will no doubt be a long and difficult recovery,” said Jocko. “This was a violent and brazen attack, and we are urging anyone who may have seen something, or who has video from the area – whether it’s security or dashcam footage – to please get in touch with our investigators at 416-808-2510. Even the smallest piece of information could help us move this investigation forward.”

The suspect is described as a Black male riding a bike.

“At this time, we do not have a more detailed description, but officers are actively canvassing the area for surveillance and dashcam video,” added Jocko. “We hope to release more details as soon as possible.”
