Toronto Police are seeking a suspect they believe intentionally drove a vehicle on a walkway, targeting a specific person.

On April 15 at around 2 p.m. a vehicle drove down a pedestrian walkway at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), injuring four people.

Two people sustained minor injuries and did not require treatment and two others were taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

None of the victims were TMU students or staff members.

“We believe the individual is dangerous and we are urging the public not to approach him,” Inspector Errol Watson said at a news conference at police headquarters on April 16. “If you see him, call police immediately.”

Ryan Petroff, 23, of Toronto, is wanted for two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident and Driving While Under Suspension.

“If you see this, Mr. Petroff, get legal counsel and turn yourself in to the police,” said Watson.

Police are also looking for the four-door Honda Accord involved in the incident, with stolen license plate DEDZ 565.

“At this time, we have not located or seized the vehicle,” said the 51 Division officer. “I understand there is significant interest in the circumstances that led to this violent incident. What I can confirm is that individuals at the scene were able to identify the suspect. To protect the identity of the intended victim, we are not commenting on the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the targeted individual, nor can we speak to possible motivations at this stage.”
