A tip to police led to the seizure of two handguns.

“Our presence in the community combined with proactive enforcement played a pivotal role in removing these threats from our streets,” said Superintendent Ryan Forde, of 43 Division. “It is our responsibility to ensure our neighbourhoods feel safe and secure and this arrest is a step in the right direction.”

Police were told a man may be carrying a gun and drugs.

After working to corroborate the information, 43 Division Major Crime Unit executed three search warrants with the assistance of the Emergency Task Force.

During the search at a unit on Morningside Ave., two handguns concealed inside a reclining chair along with several magazines and numerous rounds of loose ammunition were found.

Four people are facing charges, including gun possession and failing to comply with a release order.

“This arrest directly supports the Chief’s ongoing commitment to supporting safer communities,” Forde said. “It is our job to be out in the community, identifying these threats and taking proactive steps to ensure that residents feel safe where they work and live.”

Between the period July 1-7, a total of six guns were seized and 80 charges laid against nine people. Three adults and one youth were on bail releases.
