Tributes to Constable Marc Pinizzotto

As Toronto Police Service members continue to mourn the death of Constable Marc Pinizzotto, there has been overwhelming support from fellow officers, partner organizations and the public.

On June 14, a police-led procession escorted the body of Constable Marc Pinizzotto from the Office of the Chief Coroner to Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home on Yonge Street as hundreds of officers lined the route.

The 43-year-old officer died in the line of duty on June 11 while executing a search warrant as a member of the Toronto Police Service Emergency Task Force (ETF).

“This is more than a drive,” said Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Ed Sanchuk. “It is a tribute. Every day he wore the uniform, he did so with a deep sense of responsibility, placing the needs of the citizens of Toronto above his own, without hesitation.”

Pinizzotto served with the TPS for 18 years and spent the last five years as a member of the ETF.

On June 12, a moment of silence was observed at Rogers Centre before the Toronto Blue Jays game against the New York Yankees in honour of Pinizzotto and Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali, who died in the line of duty on June 9.

Images of both officers were displayed on the stadium’s video board as fans paid tribute.

“Both men were committed to protecting and serving their communities, and we honour their dedication,” said stadium announcer John Scholes.

In a powerful act of remembrance, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds conducted a commemorative flyover at the Barrie Air Show on June 14, honouring the memory of Pinizzotto and Bali.

Before joining the Toronto Police Service, Pinizzotto was an accomplished hockey player who competed professionally in Europe.

In a statement shared on social media, the Ontario Junior Hockey League expressed its condolences following his passing.

“On behalf of the OJHL Board of Governors, member teams, players, coaches, alumni, and staff, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Marc’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by his remarkable dedication and service,” the statement read. “His passing is a profound loss for his family, his colleagues, his community, and the entire hockey world. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time.”
