Crime Stoppers Reenactment of Hit-and-Run Death of Celeste Jones

Toronto Police Traffic Services and CrimeStoppers Toronto are seeking the public's assistance with an investigation into a Fatal Traffic collision in which the suspect vehicle failed to remain at the scene. On Friday, August 30, 2019, at approximately 10:23 p.m., police received reports of a collision in the area of Sheppard Avenue East between Abbotsfield Gate and Palmdale Drive. It is alleged that Celeste Jones, 34, was standing in the centre turn lane, crossing Sheppard Avenue East from the south side to the north side, believed to be waiting for a break in westbound traffic. The suspect vehicle was travelling eastbound on Sheppard Ave East, at a high speed in the centre turn lane. The suspect vehicle struck the woman, continued east on Sheppard Avenue East, and was last seen making a right turn onto southbound Warden Avenue. Further investigation, including forensic evidence, has revealed the following information about the suspect vehicle: - the paint of the vehicle is metallic grey in colour (a darker grey tone, not silver) - this paint colour was manufactured in Japan for Mitsubishi vehicles, between the years of 2005-2009 (possibly a Lancer or Outlander model) - glass was also found in the victim’s clothing, confirming that there was windshield damage A special appeal is being made to body shops and car dealerships to note this new information, and to contact investigators if they have repaired vehicles of a similar description. We are urging to members of the public to report any suspicious vehicles.
