Long Service Awards 2017

In this video, Toronto Police Service Inspector Sonia Thomas of 53 Division reflects on her thirty years of Service to the City of Toronto, upon receiving her 30-year Long Service Recognition Medal. The ceremony was held at the Old Mill, Toronto, on November 8th, 2017. A HISTORY OF THE POLICE EXEMPLARY SERVICE MEDAL Most countries have, as part of their system of honours, some form of official award to express tangibly, national gratitude for long and meritorious service, particularly in fields of endeavour involving potential risk or adverse working conditions. The design of the medal is simple: the scales - representing justice - on a maple leaf. The scales were chosen as an appropriate symbol, as the police form an integral part of the justice system; performing valuable duties in the community beyond simple enforcement of law.
