Long Service Lauded

Police officers, Auxiliary officers and civilian members of the Toronto Police Service were honoured for 20, 30 and 40 years of service to the community at the Old Mill Oct. 3. In his congratulatory remarks, Chief Bill Blair reminded the awardees that service is more than the passage of time. "It's also about the sacrifices that have been made and the incredible commitment that has been demonstrated by the people that we recognize today," he said. "Service should also recognize the difference you have made over the course of your careers...It's your service that has created a legacy for the Toronto Police Service's reputation and relationship with the people that we are sworn to serve that makes us one of the most safest and liveable cities anywhere... Our strength is our people." Toronto Police Services Board Chair Alok Mukherjee said the recipients should be proud to be such loyal and longstanding Service members. "There is no doubt that this organization owes its outstanding reputation to the excellent work that you do," he said. "It's through your countless contributions, your knowledge and your expertise that the Service maintains the position of prominence in the world of policing."
