@TorontoPolice Tinmen Lacrosse Team Take On Brampton Fire Demons in Charity Match

Two First Responder lacrosse teams battled at the Scotiabank Arena to raise money for two important children’s charities. The Toronto Police Tinmen and Brampton Fire Demons faced off on February 15 to benefit KidSport Ontario that links kids with free sports programs, and, Camp Faces, a charity that supports emergency responder families. Over $3,500 was raised last year. “We expect to surpass that total this year,” added Sawyer who is assigned to 43 Division. “Our main focus has been to play against local high schools and rep teams in the Greater Toronto Area to bridge the gap between the police and the community by creating a positive relationship with youth and police. Over the years, we have raised money for many local charities and schools.” The Tinmen eventually go the better of their opponents 8-7 in a shootout. “The contest was very intense and competitive,” said Const. David Sawyer. “We all had a good time out there playing, but most importantly, raising money.” An added feature this year was a contest involving fans purchasing a rubber ball for $3 and hurling it to the faceoff circle on the floor. The fan that threw the ball the closest won a prize. The Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association and the Toronto Police Association supported the event.
