Legal Services includes General Counsel and Counsel, as well as the following sections: Agreement Specialist, Civil Litigation, Human Rights and Court Processing.
The mandate of Legal Services is:
- To identify and manage legal risk for the Chief of Police and other Service members,
- To provide legal advice to the Chief of Police and other Service members in relation to criminal, provincial, civil and corporate law,
- To represent the Chief of Police and other Service members where required,
- To draft legal documents and respond to court orders,
- To manage all civil actions and claims brought against the Toronto Police Services Board the Chief of Police and other Service members,
- To assist in the prosecution of Police Services Act and Community Safety and Policing Act matters.
Service members includes uniform and civilian members.
