The Toronto Police Service will only accept reports over the phone, for lost items that:
- Have an externally visible serial number and are worth more than $500
- It is determined that there is a public interest in recording the details of the lost item (medication for instance)
Lost
An item was accidentally misplaced or left behind somewhere
Stolen
Someone removed the item from your lawful possession with the intent to steal
If your property was stolen, please submit a Theft Under $5,000 report or call 416-808-2222 if it was over $5,000.
Lost Property reports are not actively investigated by the Toronto Police Service and are kept for records purposes only in order to reunite people with their property if recovered.
If you lost your property in transit, contact the car service, taxi company or if on Toronto Transit Commission vehicle, their Lost Articles Office.
If you have lost your cellphone, please contact your service provider (example Rogers, Bell). The Toronto Police Service does not take reports for lost cellphones.
If you have lost your Canadian Passport or Social Insurance Card, contact Service Canada.
